Vienna is one of the most magnificent European cities

Vienna’s two most important museums sit facing each other on either sides of Maria-Theresien-Platz. The Art History Museum is housed in one of these palatial buildings and was opened in 1891 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Fitting space of marble and gold displays the impressive art collection built up by the Habsburgs.

The palace and gardens of Schönbrunn is one of the most impressive and best preserved Baroque ensembles of its kind in Europe. Moreover Schönbrunn is a monumental symbol of power and shows the influence of the Habsburgs dynasty over a long period of European history from the late 17th to the early 20th century.

The Hofburg was for centuries the seat of the Habsburgs of Austria until the end of WWI. The Spanish Riding School is the oldest (1572 a.D.) Riding School in the world where classic riding is still practised in its purest form.

Christmas in Vienna is a special affair. The entire city seems enveloped with the festive spirit: the main shopping streets of Graben, Kohlmarkt and Karntner Strasse sport intricate designs in twinkling lights, the traditional bakeries display rich cakes and exquisite cookies and decorated Christmas trees are everywhere.

Built in the 14th century St. Stephen’s Cathedral is one of the most famous sights of Vienna. The Cathedral is an imposing Gothic building of dark stone with a colorful tile roof and a south tower, which is 136.44 metres high.

The church was built in 1737 by one of the most famous Austrian Baroque architect Johann Fischer von Erlach. It is the biggest cathedral in Baroque style north of the Alps. It was dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo and is the most important Baroque religious building in Vienna.

The Prater is Vienna’s most popular theme park. Enjoy a great view of Vienna from the Ferris wheel, do sports or relax in the large park, woodlands and meadows. The Ferris wheel has the diameter of 65 metres and was built in 1897 to honour the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I.

The Vienna State Opera is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world and was built in Neo-Renaissance style between 1861-1869.
